The inspiration for The Black House came from the concept of dualism, where light and dark coexist as two sides of the same coin. The design team used a local transparent metal corrugated roofing sheet, a material seldom seen in architecture, to create a striking façade. Illuminated by LED strips, the milky-white transparent façade shines like a diamond, attracting passersby into the space.
The unique properties of The Black House lie in its bold departure from traditional design frameworks. The corrugated roofing sheet extends from the outside to the inside, creating a wave-like effect that draws visitors towards the space. At the center of the space stands a symbolic pillar, representing the core value of the brand. The pillar's rough surface contrasts with the smooth waves of the marble and titanium gold, creating a visual impact that exudes a unique taste of fashion.
The Black House was realized using a variety of materials, including corrugated PVC roofing sheets, black steel, rose gold plated titanium, neon lighting, marble, and tempered glass. The project spans an area of 1,200 square meters and is located in Taipei City, Taiwan. It was completed in February 2017, after starting in August 2016.
The design team faced several challenges during the realization of The Black House. The use of roofing sheets, a material often associated with cheap and distasteful architecture due to its low cost, required extensive testing and convincing. However, by rethinking and rearranging the usage of roofing sheets, the team was able to create a glowing box effect that added to the overall aesthetic of the design.
The Black House is not just a retail store, but a space that showcases the infinite variety of changes possible within a limited space. The triangular showcases, cut lights, and variations of light and shade create a magical atmosphere that is unique to this space. The exterior triangular corner window exhibition is covered with greenery, adding a touch of nature to the urban setting.
In conclusion, The Black House by A.A.A. Interior Design is a testament to the power of innovative design. It challenges traditional norms, uses unconventional materials, and creates a space that is as captivating as it is functional. The design's success is evident in its recognition with the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
